In a press release, Bangladesh Submarine Cables plc has warned the customers about this.

According to the notification, the consortium will carry out maintenance work at the Singapore end of the country’s first submarine cable (C-MI-4) system in Cox’s Bazar. For this work, circuits connected through submarine cables will be partially or completely closed for about 12 hours on Saturday, March 2 from 7 am to 7 pm. BSCPLC authorities have expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to the customers during the maintenance work.

The total bandwidth usage in the country currently stands at around 5,000 Gbps. More than half of that—about 2,700 Gbps—comes through international terrestrial cable licensees. The remaining 2,300 Gbps bandwidth is provided by BSCPLC through two submarine cables.

In 2006, Bangladesh was connected to the first submarine cable. It provides about 800 Gbps bandwidth. Since the launch of C-ME-5 in 2017, it has provided an additional 1,500 Gbps of bandwidth.

BSCPLC is aiming to provide another 13,200 Gbps bandwidth by 2025 by laying the third submarine cable C-ME-6. In addition, the company is going to spend 3.2 million dollars to increase the capacity of the first submarine cable almost six times to 4 thousand 600 Gbps.

Summit Communications, CDNet Communications, and Metacore Subcom Limited have formed a consortium to lay the country’s first private submarine cable. By 2025, the consortium is aiming to provide 45,000 Gbps bandwidth.
